Kanchanaburi is probably most
famous as the site of the "Bridge over the River Kwai" and the
Thai-Burma railway. Whilst these should be included stop's on
your visit, there are an abundance of other attractions well
worth visiting; Prasat Muang Singh, the most Westerly outpost of
the ancient Khmer empire, similar but smaller than the more
famous
Angkor Wat in Cambodia; the sapphire mines at Bo Ploi;
the Burmese border crossing at the Three Pagoda Pass and
numerous border towns where hill-tribes and Burmese refugees
live; river-rafting; waterfalls in the jungle, even a floating Nun...!
The golf here is also excellent!
We recommend visiting during the week as courses and resorts can
become busy at weekends due to it being only a 2-3 hour drive
from Bangkok and is very popular as a break away from the
Concrete Jungle!
BUT, be warned! Korean golfing
holiday-makers have pretty much taken over, some courses are
even "Out-of-Bounds" to non-Koreans - Shame.....
