Loch Palm Golf Club Description:
(a local long-time favorite for its unique, fun & fair design)

Loch Palm is probably the most popular course on Phuket and generally is in great condition since its recent refurbishment. The opening holes are played around Crystal Lake, a spectacular site measuring 48 acres in the centre of the golf course. The object of the first three holes is to stay well away from it as anything slightly right will end up in a watery grave. The first nine holes are fairly flat with water in play on most of the holes and second nine is very undulating with some dramatic elevation changes, with none more so than par 14th hole where a medium iron has struck perfectly to find the target over water 100 feet below the tee.

The par five 18th is a great finishing hole and has ruined many medal rounds. A genuine three shot par five, the fairway is only 18 yards wide at one point so a very accurate medium iron has be perfectly placed to leave you short iron in to well guarded green. The long hitters have to be very brave if they want to get on in two with out of bounds left and the lake on the right.

The clubhouse has recently been refurbished and should be fully functional by mid November 2010. A new hotel is also due to open shortly that will service guests for Loch Palm and its impressive neighbor, Red Mountain.

We played this course a few days ago. BEAUTIFUL course! It was well-kept, had a nice layout, and was quite forgiving if you hit a sub-par tee shot. They really need to offer better caddies though. Ours were useless as they routinely told us the wrong distances, lined up putts incorrectly, didn't speak a lick of English, and were quite rude to boot. One had the nerve to ask for a bigger tip from my friend, saying it was the course 'rule' to give that amount. That said, I'd love to play the course again. Highlight of the day - believe it or not, a stray dog stole my friend's ball from the 16th bunker to the right of the green. We saw the ball hit, went up, and there was the ball impact spot, trail, and paw prints from back to front of the bunker, dig marks where the ball trail ended, and no ball! Priceless!!!

A GOOD all round course with great views of the surrounding mountains with great undulations. The lush backdrop of the greenary and lots of water to boot ensures you will remember this course. Enjoyable golf. PS The caddies are pretty too!

Short but tight golf course with small greens. Course management is a MUST here. Lots of water and and often a long carry. Good challenge, long and reckless wont work here!
